The members of NAMFT represent a wide variety of professional disciplines, including social workers, psychologists, professional counselors, educators, ministers, and nurses as well as marriage and family therapists.

We practice in equally diverse settings: mental health centers, schools, universities, hospitals, social service agencies,  child care agencies, juvenile justice centers, residential treatment facilities,  counseling centers, faith-based organizations and institutions, and private practice.

If you are seeking connection with a community of colleagues that are dedicated to professional excellence, observe the highest standards of education, training, supervision, and practice, and are committed to supporting relationship health and success, NAMFT is the home for you. We invite you to join us for our networking and continuing education meetings and for our annual conference, and welcome your participation in our association's efforts to make marriage and family therapy easily accessible to everyone who could benefit from our services.

Please let us know how we can best serve you. The other members of the NAMFT Board and I welcome your input and participation as we seek to advance the practice and profession of marriage and family therapy in Nebraska.

Thank you for visiting the NAMFT website!

Sincerely yours,

Who We Are
The Nebraska Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (NAMFT) is the Nebraska Division of the American Association for Marriage & Family Therapy (AAMFT). NAMFT/AAMFT is the professional association for the field of marriage and family therapy. We represent the professional interests of more than 24,000 marriage and family therapists throughout the United States, Canada and abroad.

Since our founding in 1942, the AAMFT has been involved with the problems, needs and changing patterns of couples and family relationships. The association leads the way to increasing understanding, research and education in the field of marriage and family therapy, and ensuring that the public's needs are met by trained practitioners. The AAMFT provides individuals with the tools and resources they need to succeed as marriage and family therapists.

Our members meet rigorous standards for education and training and are held to the highest ethical standards of the profession. Clinical Members have met the highest standards of the profession for education and clinical experience. Associate and Student membership categories are available for therapists in training for clinical practice. Members of allied professions and other persons who are interested in marriage and family therapy are eligible to become Affiliate Members.

What We Do
Our association promotes the professional interests of marriage and family therapists in the state of Nebraska. Together with AAMFT, we facilitate research, theory development and education. We also develop standards for graduate education and training, clinical supervision, professional ethics and the clinical practice of marriage and family therapy.

The AAMFT hosts an annual national training conference each fall as well as a week-long series of continuing education institutes in the summer and winter. We publish the scholarly research journal Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, news about the field in Family Therapy Magazine, and a variety of brochures and pamphlets that inform the public about the field of marriage and family therapy. Also, we offer a range of professional and practice development products, including videotapes, books and brochures.

NAMFT hosts two conferences per year (click here to visit our "News & Events" page) of which NAMFT members enjoy a discount in conference fees.

Above all, in 2008, NAMFT, in partnership with other professional associations, has achieved the major victory of achieving independence, and now there is the legislative creation of Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioners and Licensed Independent Marriage & Family Therapists. We are also successful in achieving removal of supervision requirement from LIMHPs as medicaid providers. NAMFT was also responsible in establishing LIMHPs as mediciad supervisors, alongside with psychologists and psychiatrists.

The NAMFT and AAMFT and NAMFT will not stop working to ensure that practitioners have the tools, the skills, and the recognition they need to be able to serve their clientele in whichever clinical arenas they choose.
